Metabase

Metabase is one of the most widely deployed open-source BI tools, valued for its ease of setup and accessible interface. Its AI querying features are newer and less mature than its core BI functionality. Context governance is partial: you can define friendly column names and hide sensitive tables, but there is no structured agent context or prompt testing workflow. dbt integration exists via the metadata sync feature. For teams that want governed, testable AI answers rather than exploratory BI, purpose-built agent tools are a better fit.
